Consistent exercise! just like us humans, exercise is a crucial part of keeping fit and maintaining healthier bodily movement, and contributes to a happier mind! Aim to exercise your horse even lightly at least twice a week.
2. Routine. Horses respond very well to being in an active routine. Using a routine throughout the week helps horses feel a sense of enrichment and purpose. They have an understanding of their duties very quickly once they learn their routine and you may be amazed at their intelligence! They may even do things on their very own without being asked because they have memorized their routine!
3. Positive Behavior from their Humans. Unfortunately many horses are trained using fear tactics, e.g. If I don't listen to my human they are going to hurt/threaten me therefor they try to do as they are asked to avoid punishment.,
but what plenty of people don't know is that horses are absolutely capable of performing just as well, if not better by building a trust bond with their human. Almost anything can be taught or resolved using positive reinforcement. Using a reward based system rather than a punishment allows your horse to respect you and feel good/happy about what they are doing. Some horses even get excited to do tasks they disliked previously. Always try to be patient with your horse as very often the case is not that your horse is being rude, they may just be struggling to understand your requests or they may be even be in pain. Keeping up to date with your equine vet, chiropractor, dentist, farrier and ensuring a suitable diet, water supply and living environment are all important factors.
